MIA X TO BE INDUCTED INTO RICE UNIVERSITY’S CERCL HIP HOP ARCHIVE: A CELEBRATION OF SOUTHERN HIP HOP LEGACY

Houston, TX (August 20, 2024) – The Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL) at Rice University is proud to announce the induction of Mia X, the pioneering emcee who made history as the first female rapper to sign with Master P's No Limit Records, into the CERCL Hip Hop Archival Collection. This momentous event will take place on September 18, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM CDT at the Grand Hall in the Rice Memorial Center/Ley Student Center.

Mia X: Soldier, Survivor, Savant will honor the contributions of Mia X, fondly known as The Mother of Southern Hip Hop, to the cultural landscape of hip hop. This free, public event will include a panel discussion featuring Dr. Anthony Pinn, Chinara Butler (widow of Pimp C), and G Dash of SwishaHouse, who will explore Mia X's groundbreaking role in shaping Southern Hip Hop.

The induction of Mia X into the CERCL Hip Hop Archival Collection at Fondren Library’s Woodson Research Center not only celebrates her illustrious career but also preserves her legacy for future generations. Mia X’s induction is part of CERCL’s ongoing efforts to document and honor the contributions of key figures in the hip hop community, particularly those who have significantly impacted Southern Hip Hop.
